There are plenty of website designers out there who will claim to offer you the best kept secrets in search engine optimisation and guarantee you the top spot on a search engine ranking for almost no effort. Doorway pages are not something you probably would have seen as an internet user, as they are not directed at you. A doorway page is created by using keywords, key phrases, Meta tags to a certain keyword density and all of this time and effort should be directed towards ensuring that your actual website has all of this information on it. While doorway pages may work some of the time, search engines are catching on and a website using these pages can find itself ignored, or worse – banned.
Doorway pages are often seen by search engines for what they are – spam. Search engines work to provide the pages they think will best suit the needs of the searcher and these are sites with relevant information, well written articles and easily navigable pages and this means ignoring pages which are obviously junk, designed to catch their attention, while not actually helping anyone.
Having a doorway page on your website can mean it is flagged by the search engines as a ‘spammy’ site and this will then have the opposite effect you were after and pull down the trustworthiness of your entire website and in turn your entire business.
